Becoming an Independent Medical Examiner
Independent Medical Examiner
The Office of the Medical Director is expanding its panel of Independent Medical Examiners, physicians/practitioners who conduct examinations to verify a disability status. The State Disability Insurance (SDI) program requests these examinations pursuant to circumstances listed in Section 2627(c)-1(b) of Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations. For example, an examination may be requested when the given duration of a disability supplied by the claimant’s own health care provider is significantly longer than normal for the diagnosis in question, and the claimant’s health care provider has not medically justified the additional time period.
Independent medical examinations assist SDI in preserving its fund for the benefit of workers who are insured through SDI.
