FAQ - Benefit Programs Online

General Information

Benefit Programs Online is a secure portal for Employment Development Department (EDD) customers to access SDI Online and UI OnlineSM using a single login.

Anyone with a unique email address can create a Benefit Programs Online (BPO) login. For new accounts, access to UI Online and SDI Online will still require an additional registration process to verify identity and eligibility, etc.

Note for UI Online Customers: You must have an Unemployment Insurance (UI) claim and your Employment Development Department (EDD) Customer Account Number to register for a UI Online account. For more information on UI Online registration requirements, visit the UI Online Registration page.

Registration

Benefit Programs Online registration will require that you:

  • Provide a personal, non-shared email address.
  • Provide a password.
  • Select a personal image.
  • Provide a personal caption.
  • Select and answer four security questions.

Note: Additional requirements exist in the secondary registration steps found in both SDI Online and UI Online.

Yes. Benefit Programs Online is mobile-friendly.

Password Recovery, and Account Security

If you have forgotten your password:

  1. Go to the Benefit Programs Online login page.
  2. Enter your email.
  3. Select Log In.
  4. Select Forgot Password to begin the process of setting your new password.

If you cannot remember the answers to your security questions, you will need to contact the EDD.

  • Paid Family Leave customers have the following contact options for this issue:
    • By Phone: Call 1-877-238-4373 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Pacific time), Monday through Friday, except on state holidays.
    • Online: Go to Ask EDD and select the category Paid Family Leave, the sub-category Benefit Programs Online, and the topic Password Reset. Select Continue at the bottom of the page to begin the process of submitting your password reset request.

Yes. Passwords can be reset using your mobile device. You need to have access to your email to reset your password.

Note: All of your Benefit Programs Online profile updates can be done using a mobile device.

To start the update process for your Benefit Programs Online account, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to Benefit Programs Online.
  2. Select the My Profile link at the top of the page.
  3. Select the item for which you wish to begin the update process. The update options on the My Profile page are:
    1. Update Email
    2. Update Password
    3. Update Security Questions
    4. Update Personal Image and Caption

Note: Additional contact information such as your mailing address and phone number can only be updated in SDI Online or UI Online.

Log in to Benefit Programs Online and select My Profile. Select Update Personal Image and Caption to update your personal image.

You selected your personal image and caption when you registered for Benefit Programs Online as part of the security on your account. If you do not recognize your personal image and caption DO NOT enter your password.

Before you contact the EDD, be sure you have done the following:

  • Enter your email in Benefit Programs Online again, ensuring you have entered it accurately and select Log In to review your Personal Image and Caption once more.
  • If you are new to Benefit Programs Online, be sure that you have completed the registration process by selecting your unique link in the “Benefit Programs Online - Registration” email.

Contact EDD immediately if you entered the correct email and have completed registration, but the wrong personal image and caption is displayed.

The EDD takes the security of information very seriously and makes every effort to protect your personal information. Also, safeguards are built into the system to detect and prevent fraud such as the use of encrypted data and security images and notification when updates are made to your account.

You will be locked out of Benefit Programs Online if you exceed the maximum number of attempts entering the wrong password or the wrong answers to your security questions. If you are locked out, you can try to log in again later.

Contact Information and Personal Preferences

Email update:
Update your email address, password, security questions, or personal image and caption in Benefit Programs Online (BPO).
To start the update process for your Benefit Programs Online account, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to Benefit Programs Online.
  2. Select the My Profile link at the top of the page.
  3. Select the item for which you wish to begin the update process. The update options on the My Profile page are:
    1. Update Email
    2. Update Password
    3. Update Security Questions
    4. Update Personal Image and Caption

Address and phone update:
Update additional contact information such as your mailing address and phone number in SDI Online and UI Online.

  • UI Online - Steps to update your contact information:
    • Log in to Benefit Programs Online and then select UI Online.
    • Select Personal Profile from the UI Online main menu.
    • Select Contact Information to update your information.
  • SDI Online - Steps to update your contact information:
    • Log in to Benefits Programs Online and then select SDI Online.
    • Select the Manage My Profile tab link on your SDI Online Home page Main Menu.
    • From the Page Menu, select the contact information you wish to update.

If you received an error message while attempting to log in, register, update your profile, logout, or reset your password, the steps you should take are:

  1. Visit the Benefit Programs Online page to find out if the system is unavailable due to scheduled maintenance or is currently experiencing technical issues. (During outages there will be a message in a yellow box at the top of the page.)
  2. Close all browsers, wait a few minutes, and then open a new browser window.
  3. Go to Benefit Programs Online and start the process again.
  4. Check all the information you have entered is accurate.

If you continue to receive the error message, note the error code (if one was provided) and contact the EDD.

To protect the security of your account, Benefit Programs Online sessions will automatically expire after 30 minutes on any page. To continue, simply return to the Benefit Programs Online login page and start over.
