Employers Warned About Phishing Scheme
11/21/12 11:25 a.m.
Attention Employers:
The Employment Development Department (EDD) learned recently of e-mail phishing scams targeting employers in other states. These e-mails are asking for employee information and referencing unemployment claims. The EDD will never send an unencrypted e-mail communication to employers requesting sensitive information about employees such as social security numbers. If you receive such an e-mail do not respond. There may be instances where EDD staff have a need to exchange information using encrypted * e-mail, in which case instructions will be provided to the employer prior to its use. Access EDD’s Contact Us if you have questions.
* Encryption is the process that transforms information using software to make it unreadable to anyone except the intended recipient.
