Information for Workers Impacted by Restrictions on California's Salmon Fisheries
On April 10, 2008, Governor Schwarzenegger issued a State of Emergency Proclamation (Sacramento River Fall Run Chinook Salmon), due to the poor ocean conditions and recent restrictions that have been imposed on the State's salmon fisheries. Various forms of assistance are available to help impacted workers.
- Using eApply4UI online is the easiest and fastest way to apply for Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits. UI offers partial wage replacement to workers who lost their job through no fault of their own while they look for another job.
- To date, President Bush has not authorized federal disaster programs like Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) for those directly impacted by the closing of the fisheries in the State. At such time, individuals who became unemployed as a result of the emergency and who do not qualify for regular UI benefits, may then file for DUA. Updates will continue to be posted as more information becomes available.
