Job Openings

General Information

Before you can be appointed to a permanent position, you must take an examination to establish your eligibility. Permanent, Permanent Intermittent, and Limited-Term hires are made from the eligibility lists created from the examination. (Some positions are temporary and do not require an examination.)

Please review the job announcement to determine if you must first compete in an examination. After completing the examination, candidates will receive a final score and be placed into a rank. In general, only those in the top three ranks are reachable and ready for appointment. As the ranks are cleared, the next lowest rank becomes reachable.

Inquiries regarding a particular job opening should be directed to the contact person listed on the job announcement. For general information about getting a state job, please visit the California State Personnel Board's (SPB) How to Apply for a State Job Web page.
