  • EDD Debit CardSM and Direct Deposit Transfer: The EDD Debit CardSM is the new and more efficient way of delivering California Unemployment and State Disability Insurance benefit payments. This new payment system will allow customers to receive their benefits faster and eliminate check cashing fees for customers who do not have a bank account. The EDD Debit CardSM owner will have access to their funds 24 hours a day, 7 days a week everywhere Visa debit cards are accepted.

Customers may also choose direct deposit transfer, from the EDD Debit CardSM to their personal bank account, for their benefit payments.

In 2011, EDD began switching over from issuing benefits by checks to the EDD Debit CardSM. The rollout of the debit cards for SDI and UI is complete and EDD customers are currently receiving the EDD Debit CardSM for the benefit payments. Approximately 1.7 million cards were issued. Information about the completed transition is available in the News Release 11-85. Many EDD customers have expressed an appreciation for the quicker arrival of payments and the greater flexibility to manage their benefits. For more information, visit The EDD Debit CardSM Web page.
  • EDD Web-CertSM: Customers are able to submit their bi-weekly continued claim form online instead of sending in the paper continued claim form. EDD Web-CertSM allows you to certify for UI benefits 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Going paperless helps customers by reducing common errors that can cause benefit delays. This online option provides greater customer ease, a more efficient delivery system, and saves the customer the cost of postage. For more information, visit the EDD Web-CertSM Web page.
  • EDD Tele-CertSM: This feature enables most customers to submit their bi-weekly continued claim form by using the telephone, instead of filling out and mailing a paper form. This expedites payments and reduces payment delays caused by errors in completing claim forms. Enhancements have been made in the call center infrastructure that expand capacity to answer calls and reduce wait times experienced by customers.
  • eApply4UI: File for Unemployment Insurance claim online by accessing eApply4UI at any time, at your convenience, in English or Spanish. It is secure, reliable, and the fastest way to file your claim.
