What is DIA?

This site provides links to reference documents regarding the Employment Development Department’s (EDD) Disability Insurance Automation (DIA) Project.

In a collaborative effort to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the state's Disability Insurance (DI) program, the EDD initiated the DIA Project. This site provides links to reference documents for the Project.

The core of the DIA solution is the implementation of a secure electronic communications and information processing environment that promotes efficiency and reduces costs by following HIPAA regulations and guidelines. HIPAA provides EDD an opportunity to realize the advantages of electronic communications with claimants, medical providers, and employers. The project seeks to significantly improve on its delivery of DI services by focusing on the three primary business goals, allowing EDD to:

• Improve EDD's service delivery
• Detect and prevent fraud and abuse
