In 1956, the Department's Sacramento headquarters moved from 1025 P Street to a new building on 722/800 Capitol Mall. The building featured seven stories, a gross area of 493,000 square feet, air conditioning, gas-fired heat, fluorescent lighting, asphalt tile floors, acoustical ceilings, and removable partitioning. Named the Employment Development Department in 1974.
