UI OnlineSM Registration

En español

You must have an Unemployment Insurance (UI) claim and your Employment Development Department (EDD) Customer Account Number to register for a UI OnlineSM account. If you have lost, misplaced, or not yet received this number, contact the EDD at 1-800-300-5616 for assistance.

If you need to file a new UI claim, visit Ways to File a UI Claim.

1. Gather the Required Information.

All new users must provide the following information:

EDD Customer Account Number: All UI customers who file a new claim or reopen an existing claim will automatically receive the Employment Development Department (EDD) Customer Account Number(DE 5614) letter within 10 business days of filing or reopening a claim. If you have lost, misplaced or never received this number, contact the EDD at 1-800-300-5616 for assistance.

Personal, Non-Shared E-mail Address: If you do not have an e-mail address or share one with another person, you will need to create your own unique e-mail address to protect your privacy and the confidentiality of your UI claim. If you don’t have an e-mail account, you will need to create one. There are many options available through an online search.

2. Register as a New User on UI OnlineSM.

From the UI OnlineSM Login page, select, “Register for UI OnlineSM” to begin the registration process.

If you already have an SDI Online account from a Disability or Paid Family Leave claim, you will still need to register for UI OnlineSM because SDI Online and UI OnlineSM are two different EDD systems. However, you will use the same username and password from your SDI Online account to help ease your registration for UI OnlineSM. If you have forgotten your SDI Online username or password, visit SDI Online.

If you have forgotten your SDI Online username or password, visit the SDI Online FAQ page for instructions on how to recover this information.

Username: Your username must be between 8 and 15 characters and cannot contain any special characters. Once you select your username, it cannot be changed.

Password: Your password must be at least 8 characters in length and contain at least:

3. Finalize the Registration Process.

Once you have established a new UI OnlineSM account, a confirmation message with a unique link will be sent to the e-mail address you provided at the time of registration.

Select the Unique Link: After going through the initial registration process, open the “Notification of EDD Online Account Created” e-mail from the EDD. Select the unique link within 48 hours. Otherwise, the link will expire and you will need to re-register for UI OnlineSM.

Go through the First Time Log In Process: The unique link will direct you to the “UI OnlineSM - First Time Log In” page. Enter your username, then your password, and log in.

Important: If you do not recognize the personal image you selected when registering, you most likely did not finalize the registration process by accessing the unique link and following all instructions to complete the registration process.

If you do not receive this e-mail, please check your junk/spam folder. To ensure e-mails from the EDD appear in your inbox, add noreply@edd.ca.gov to your address book.

4. Confirmation E-mail with an expired Unique Link

If your unique link has expired, you must select “Register for UI OnlineSM” from the UI OnlineSM homepage and re-enter your personal information including your name, date of birth, Social Security number, EDD Customer Account number, and personal caption (CAPTCHA) phrase.

If entered correctly, your username and e-mail will display, make a note of the username and verify the e-mail address is correct.

Once you select the submit button, a new confirmation e-mail will be sent to your e-mail address with a new unique link for you to complete the registration process.

If you do not receive an e-mail containing your new unique link, please check your junk/spam folder. To ensure e-mails from the EDD appear in your inbox, add noreply@edd.ca.gov to your address book.

Once you select the unique link in your e-mail, you will be asked to enter your username and password on the UI OnlineSM homepage

Requesting a Temporary Password:  If you have forgotten your password you can request a temporary password by selecting “Forgot Password.” You must then once again access the unique link in your e-mail and sign in with your username and temporary password to complete the registration process. Once you log in to UI OnlineSM, you will be prompted to change your temporary password. If necessary, you can also reset your security questions.
