Documents in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF)
PDF documents are available for viewing and printing with the Adobe Acrobat Reader. You can download the latest version of the free Adobe Acrobat Reader at www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html.

  2. Q. I am not familiar with downloading and installing software. How do I install the Acrobat Reader?

    A. The Adobe Web site has complete installation instructions for the Acrobat Reader software. You may want to print those pages so you have the instructions available while you install the software.
  3. Q. I want to configure the Acrobat Reader into my browser so I can view the documents while I am still on the Internet. Can I do that?

    A. Yes, you can install the latest Acrobat Reader as a plug-in while you are on the Internet. The Adobe Web site has instructions for installing the Acrobat Reader.
  4. Q. Can I search for text in a PDF document?

    A. You can search for text by using the Adobe Reader toolbar. Click on the Binocular icon and follow the on-screen instructions.
  5. Q. I am having trouble printing directives and/or information bulletins.

    A. You must print using the Print icon on the Adobe Reader toolbar. You may have trouble printing if you use the browser toolbar.
  6. Q. I get a blank screen when I try to open a PDF document. What should I do?

    A. Open your Acrobat Reader. From the Help menu, select About Acrobat Reader to check the version of your Adobe Reader. If you do not have version 7.0 or later, go to the Adobe Web site and download the latest version of the free Adobe Acrobat Reader at www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html. If you already have the latest version, close and restart your browser. For further assistance, please send an e-mail to Pagemast@edd.ca.gov.

Forms in Microsoft Word and Excel

Forms are available in Microsoft Word 2003 and/or Excel 2003. You can download, enter data, edit, save, and print forms.

  1. Q. How do I find the form I need?

    A. Forms are numbered by the directive or information bulletin they were issued under. Forms may be found within the document or in the Resource Information Center.
  2. Q. How do form numbers relate to the issuing directive or information bulletin?

    A. The following file naming conventions identify the form and its original document, followed by program year and originating document number:

    Workforce Investment Act (WIA)

FWIABXX-XX — WIA Information Bulletin Form
    FWIADXX-XX — WIA Directive Form
  3. Q. How do I download a form?

    A. You must have Microsoft Word 2003 and/or Excel 2003. When you select and open the form, you will have capabilities to enter data, edit, save, and print. To save the file permanently, from the File menu, select Save As and rename the document.
  4. Q. How do I enter data and edit Microsoft Word forms?

    A. The forms utilize tables, form fields, and check boxes. The forms are locked to enable the form field navigation feature. This form field navigation feature allows you to use the tab key to move through the form from one field to the next and enter data. When you open a form, your cursor should be in the first field that requires data. Once you enter the required data, use the Save As command from the File menu and rename the document. Note: If you unlock the form, the field navigation feature will become disabled until the document is re-locked. The previously saved data will disappear from the screen. To retrieve previously saved data, you will need to close the file without saving the changes made to the document and re-open the file.
  5. Q. Some PDF documents are very lengthy. Is there a feature to assist in navigating within a document?

    A. A bookmark feature is available in PDF documents. The bookmarks are displayed in the Bookmarks palette, which is located in the navigation pane to the left of the document pane. You can select any of the topics to navigate inside the document. For more information on the Adobe Reader toolbar, go to the Help menu.
  6. Q. I am still having trouble viewing or downloading forms. What should I do next?

    A. Send an e-mail to Pagemast@edd.ca.gov. The subject line must include the word "Download" and the following information should be included in the message:
  • Browser name (e.g., Netscape or Microsoft Internet Explorer)
  • Browser version (from the Help menu, select About . . .)
  • Microsoft Word version (from the Help menu, select About . . .)
  • Description of the problem or error message
