Summary: City College of San Francisco (CCSF) will create a Stem Cell Research Certificate program to provide participants with the advanced skills needed to find jobs in the lucrative and rapidly growing field of stem cell research. CCSF instructors will receive training in partnership with local industry in cutting-edge techniques to help them create a new course for the program. Student internships will advance participants' skill sets and pave the way for future employment. Wrap-around services will offer further assistance in finding and maintaining employment. At the conclusion of CCSF's program, participants will be fully equipped to enter into a profitable career path in a high-growth industry. |

Summary: The Sacramento Construction Workforce Development Initiative will create a construction training and employment network resulting in a seamless system to deliver an increased number of knowledgeable, skilled and enthusiastic employees into the construction workforce. LEED-Sacramento will bring together the construction employer community and regional training programs to address the shortage of skilled labor within our region. Additionally, a marketing campaign will encourage youth and adults to enroll in training options leading to high paying careers in the construction trades. This will result in a narrowing of the workforce shortage gap and a strengthened economy as new and incumbent workers make significant income gains. |

Summary: The Construction Apprenticeship Pathways Program will prepare 250 very at-risk young adults, 18-24 years of age, for placement into high demand, career ladder employment - including apprenticeships - in the construction trades. The approach will integrate Workforce Investment Act, Wagner-Peyser, and significant non-WIA resources to address the unmet needs of individuals with significant barriers to employment while addressing local employer hiring needs. |

Summary: Due to the aging population and homeland security, emergency medical transportation is a high growth, high wage, high skill industry having a continuous shortage of licensed Emergency Medical Technicians. The proposal purpose is to operationalize an employer-driven high growth job training initiative that provides 220 young adults ages 18-24 with employment in a unionized industry at a starting wage of $13.00. Funding this proposal makes Los Angeles safer; promotes growth of a critically important industry; and provides disadvantaged, minority young adults with a career ladder that links directly to employment as a paramedic, firefighter, or LVN, all of which are high wage, high growth occupations. |

Summary: The San Diego Imperial Counties Labor
Council requests $800,000 for Project Destination to over a period of 18 months.
The Labor Council proposes to serve a total of 85 program participants in
acquiring High Wage/High Skill employment in the Construction Industry.
Project Destination is a time proven project of the Labor Council with over
83% success rate in providing WIA approved continuum of services. Expert
staff, extensive physical assets and a wide array of supportive services add
depth and quality to our program. Leading San Diego employer partners are
committed and ready to hire trainees who emerge from our program. |
