Summary: This project is a comprehensive training and employment program designed to integrate 90 veterans with substance abuse problems and serious barriers to employment into meaningful employment. These veterans reside in Los Angeles County Districts 1 and 2. The strategies for this project include an integrated approach to workforce development composed of treatment; training and job preparation linked to economic development, structured job training to build work experience; support services to reduce or eliminate barriers, education to facilitate advancements; collaboration with the WIB, One-Stop Centers, and workforce partners, and technology responsive to VEAP. |

Summary: The Fresno Area Workforce Investment Corporation, administrators of local Workforce Investment Act funds for the Fresno County Workforce Investment Board, will facilitate job training and employment-related activities for 200 veterans. Our program, "Empower Patriots for Careers" is a comprehensive plan in partnership with the California Army National Guard, Navy Recruiters, veterans' groups, and community partners to engage veterans in job training programs and facilitate placement in careers within high-growth local industries, which offer higher wages, long-term employment, and career advancement opportunities. |

Summary: Project SERVE (Service, Education, Retention, Value & Employment) VETS, proposed by IVROP with the assistance from grant partners, proposes to service and meet the educational, job retention, employment and value added service needs of 75 Imperial County eligible veterans. Goals of the project are to provide quality and efficient direct employment and training services, job placement in unsubsidized employment, and retention services to eligible veterans that will enable them to improve their socio-economic situation and quality of life and create an apprenticeship network delivery system so that veterans can be linked with available apprenticeship training programs located throughout the State. |

Summary: The purpose of New Directions' Veterans To Work program is to find meaningful, sustaining work for homeless veterans. New Directions offers comprehensive employment services for veterans in Los Angeles County who have drug addiction, mental illness and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). In addition to long-term temporary housing, drug treatment, and permanent housing placement, New Directions offers remedial education, vocational assessment, employment development plans, and training in computers, culinary arts, environmental management, human services, and individualized training. Mental health services include PTSD counseling, which is being expanded to treat recently separated veterans from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. |

Summary: North Bay Resource Center (NBRC) proposes to continue the provision of comprehensive employment and supportive services to VEAP eligible veterans in Sonoma, Mendocino, and Lake Counties. Utilizing a time-proven case management model, NBRC plans to enroll 140, and place 100 veterans in sustainable wage jobs with an average wage at placement service delivery infrastructure in Sonoma County since 1980. Summary: North Coast Veterans Resource Center (NCVRC) proposes the continued provision of comprehensive employment and supportive services to VEAP eligible veterans in Humboldt County. The rural veterans to be served have significant, commonly multiple barriers to independent living and employability. NCVRC plans to enroll 80 and place 58 veterans in sustainable wage jobs with an average wage at placement service delivery infrastructure in Humboldt County since 1993. The proposed project is an integrated service continuum in collaboration with the EDD, the Job Market (One-Stop), the LWIB, and the Department of Veterans' Affairs. |

Summary: The proposed project is to continue serving veterans in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties through a joint effort of NOVA LWIB, San Mateo LWIB, Next Step Center, EDD’s DVOP/LVER, DVA Palo Alto Health Care System, and the Compensated Work Therapy Program/Veterans Industry. The project has met or exceeded its performance goals since its inception in 1988. Over 15 months, 250 VEAP eligible veterans will be enrolled with special efforts to provide employment and training services to those veterans with multiple barriers to employment. Anticipated placement of 180 veterans 72% with an average wage at placement of $9.75 per hour. |

Summary: This program will train veterans with special skills in the health care and food service fields to earn certification as licensed vocational nurses and dietetic service supervisors and find employment in California nursing homes. California regulations provide special consideration for veterans with comparable experience that allows them to enter these professions on an expedited basis. This program will conduct outreach to veterans, match candidates with employment opportunities, provide orientation to the long-term care field, and provide assistance in preparing for and taking state licensing examinations. Successful candidates will be offered employment at rates exceeding $20 per hour. |

Our agencies have improved the design of earlier successful programs by creating stronger agreements with the two North County One-Stop Career Centers and maximizing the excellent services of our EDD Disabled Veterans Outreach Program and Local Veterans Employment Representative staff. We also plan to recruit and serve the many recently separated veterans being discharged from Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton into North San Diego County. |

Summary: Swords to Plowshares proposes to operate a WIA VEAP program in San Francisco by providing services to 106 veterans with significant barriers to employment. Participants will belong to at least one of the four targeted veteran groups. The program strategy will incorporate outreach, intake, pre-enrollment assessment, employment development plan, core training and placement activities. Core training activities will emphasize job readiness, classroom, and on-the-job training activities. Seventy-five (75) veterans will participate in core training and seventy-seven (77) will be secured jobs. Extensive follow-up will be provided as part of our overall supportive services program. |

Summary: The Vietnam Veterans of San Diego (VVSD), in collaboration with the San Diego Veterans Administration and the local Veteran Employment Committee, proposes to place 122 San Diego County veterans into long-term employment. The target veterans are recently separated, service-connected disabled, campaign veterans and those facing significant barriers to employment. The average starting wage will be $11 per hour with an expected increase within six months. All 118 veterans will receive training. This program will cover the City of San Diego. VVSD has successfully operated EDD employment programs continuously since 1988. |
