Summary: VetWORKS will serve Recently Separated Veterans residing in San Diego. A comprehensive array of career advancement services will be offered. Partners include: the South County Career Center, Balboa Career Transition Center, All Congregations Together, the LWIA, the State Department of Rehabilitation and others.
Of the 84 enrolled, 70 will enter employment; 60 will receive training; 45 will receive credentials; and 60 will be retained. Training will be targeted to occupations in Business and Computer Services; Healthcare; Visitor Services and Construction. Training hours vary from 60-720 hours with the exception of Apprenticeships. The average hourly wage at placement will be $15.00.

Summary: The Fresno County Workforce Investment Board, in partnership with the Kings County Job Training Office, West Hills College, and three (3) military and veteran partners will serve 125 recently separated veterans, including those with disabilities, significant barriers, campaign veterans and/or eligible spouses. Veteran and military organizations include Army National Guard, Lemoore Naval Air Station (the largest naval air station in central California), and county veterans services.
The Program will integrate with One-Stop systems and facilitate job training and employment-related activities, while providing access and referrals to community supportive services. The Program will assess veteran occupational interests, identify military transferable skills, and determine career pathways within local high-growth industries, which offer livable wages, benefits, and career advancement opportunities. Occupations include healthcare, construction, correctional officer, maintenance mechanics and repair, automotive service tech and mechanic.

Summary: The target population for this proposal is 130 veterans, 50% who will be recently separated and who belong to one of the following groups: service-connected disabled, recently-separated, campaign, having significant barriers to employment, and eligible spouses, as defined in Jobs for Veterans’ Act 107-288. Project SERVE Vets IV, through Imperial Valley Regional Occupation Program and partners, will help fill existing gaps to better assist our veterans with their integration into civilian life. Activities will include the following: counseling, job search activities, job preparatory training, résumé and job application writing, on-the-job (OJT) training, mentoring, case management, support, and job placement services. Occupations include law enforcement, health care, truck driving, and machinist.

Summary: This proposal will address the employment needs of recently separated veterans. In the course of the two year period, participants will be recruited through outreach that will be conducted through other service providers including the Veterans Administration, Lutheran and other congregations, advertisements on public service radio and television and daily papers. Services to be provided after enrollment are assessment and development of Employment Plans, rehabilitation treatment, and training in job winning. Recently separated veterans will be enrolled over the two year period and 125 will be trained in occupational employment.

Summary: Los Angeles VeteransWorks, operated by Managed Career Solutions, Inc., is a partnership of 4 Los Angeles County Local Workforce Investment Areas and other organizations that provide comprehensive services that support Recently Separated Veterans (RSVs) in job skills training, placement and retention programs. Managed Career Solutions will assist 300 RSVs L.A. County residents in obtaining/retaining competitive high wage, high growth occupations.
Employers in the following six sectors commit to hiring RSVs: 1) healthcare, 2) emergency medical technician, 3) construction, 4) logistics, 5) hospitality and 6) security/law enforcement. RSVs have the opportunity to enroll in programs that are employer/sector driven and have demonstrated ability in providing the pathways to career ladder jobs.

Summary: The proposed project will provide employment services to veterans in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties through joint efforts with multiple Workforce Investment Boards, community-based organizations, and government agencies. Over 18 months, 250 veterans (125 each under 15% and 25% funding) will be provided with comprehensive employment and training and support services. The program will place 96 15% participants (77%) at $11.95 per hour, and 106 25% participants (85%) at $15.20 per hour, in high growth occupations such as health and protective services and computer specialists. Wages in these fields are $8.69–$42.97 per hour. Training is estimated at 3–9 months.

Summary: The Recently Separated Veterans Project (RSVP) is a unique collaboration between the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos, Orange County WIB One-Stop, Pacific Gateway Workforce Investment Network, the City of Anaheim and the City of Santa Ana WIB. The goal of the RSVP project is to provide comprehensive employment related services for 75 recently separated veterans through co-location of the One-Stop Center staff and Coast Community College District staff in an on base Veterans Service Center. Veterans will be offered career ladder in a variety of occupations including aircraft mechanics, automotive technicians, healthcare and computer science.

Summary: The Veteran’s Local Initiative for Employment Project will provide pre-employment soft and hard skills training to 110 recently separated veterans. Linking with major local employers who participate in crafting pre-employment curriculum, veterans will obtain living wage jobs, acquire highly transferable skills in high demand occupations. Collaboration will occur with the Employment Development Department Veterans representatives at career centers, military base Family Resource Centers, Transition Assistance Programs, The United Way, and other community based agencies. Veterans will be placed into the following occupations: utilities and communications, defense, transportation and manufacturing, and hospitality. Employer partners include: San Diego Gas and Electric, General Dynamics, and NASSCO.

Summary: The project will target 70 recently separated veterans, providing a full range of Workforce Investment Act core, intensive and training services. These will be supplemented by veteran services provided by Employment Development Department, along with a host of support services available through community-based agencies. The project will focus on three target industries (manufacturing, water treatment, and construction) for which employment opportunities have been identified, offering hourly wages ranging from $15 to nearly $30. Classroom and work-based training linked to each industry will last from a few weeks to seven months. Veterans with transferable skills may also be placed into demand occupations within other industries.

Summary: The Initiative will create a training and employment pathway for 81 recently separated veterans leading to jobs at Pacific Gas & Electric paying an average wage of $70,000 and above. Key job areas will include Utility Worker, Field and Equipment Mechanic, and Supervisor. The Initiative will provide a four month college credited Utility Worker training for 50 recently separated veterans, an 80 hour Mechanic training for 25 recently separated veterans with mechanical experience, and 8 week Supervisor boot camp for 6 recently separated non-commissioned officers. Pacific Gas & Electric intends to hire qualified program graduates for open positions. Training will be centered in Fresno, through the Fresno County WIB, and the Bay Area through the San Mateo WIB.

Summary: Swords to Plowshares’ proposed Workforce Investment Act Veterans Employment-Related Assistance Program will provide services to 114 veterans with significant barriers to employment. Half the participants will be recently separated; the others, from other periods of service. The program strategy incorporates outreach, intake, pre-enrollment assessment, individualized employment development plan, core training, job placement and job retention activities. Core training will emphasize job readiness, life skills and training activities. All 114 will participate in core training and 92 will secure jobs. Swords will provide a variety and depth of in-kind services, including veteran-specific supportive housing, mental health counseling and specialized legal services.

Summary: Vietnam Veterans of San Diego, in collaboration with the San Diego Veterans Administration and the local County Veteran Service Office, will place 98 recently separated veterans into long-term employment. Half will be dislocated workers. 100% of the targeted veterans are recently separated. Veterans will be placed in the following occupations: truck driving, ship building and repair, and hotel management. The average starting wage will be at least $12 per hour. Six months after hire, the average wage will be at least $13 per hour. All 120 enrollees will receive core services. The program will cover San Diego County’s eastern and southern region. Vietnam Veterans of San Diego has successfully operated Employment Development Department employment programs with the Local Workforce Investment Board since 1988.
