What’s New in Payroll Taxes

Effective January 1, 2017: New State Law - Mandatory E-file and E-pay for All Employers

Beginning January 1, 2017, employers with 10 or more employees will be required to electronically submit employment tax returns, wage reports, and payroll tax deposits to the Employment Development Department (EDD). All remaining employers will be subject to this requirement beginning January 1, 2018. Any employer required under existing law to electronically submit wage reports and/or electronic funds transfer to the EDD will remain subject to those requirements. Reducing Paper and Costs for the State: The 2013 DE 44 and DE 8829 is Online!

Effective immediately, employers who wish to continue to receive a paper guide each year must go to e-Services for Business and select the “Request an Annual Mailing of CA Employer’s Guide (DE 44) or Household Employer’s Guide (DE 8829)" link under “More Online Services,” or go directly to the Annual Mailing Preference page and choose to receive the guide.
