General Information

Benefit Programs Online (BPO) is a secure portal for Employment Development Department (EDD) customers to access SDI Online, UI OnlineSM, and Benefit Overpayment Services.

Anyone with a unique email address can create a Benefit Programs Online account. New accounts go through a secondary registration process to access UI Online, SDI Online, and Benefit Overpayment Services.

Note for UI Online Customers: You must have an Unemployment Insurance (UI) claim and your EDD Customer Account Number to register for a UI Online account. Visit UI Online Registration for more information.

Registration

Benefit Programs Online registration will require you to:

  • Provide a personal, non-shared email address.
  • Provide a password.
  • Select a personal image.
  • Provide a personal caption.
  • Select and answer four security questions.

Note: There are more requirements in the secondary registration steps found within UI Online, SDI Online, and Benefit Overpayment Services.

Yes. Benefit Programs Online is mobile-friendly.

Password Recovery and Account Security

If you forgot your password:

  1. Go to the Benefit Programs Online login page.
  2. Enter your email.
  3. Select Log In.
  4. Select Forgot Password to begin the process of setting your new password.

If you cannot remember the answers to your security questions, you will need to contact the EDD.

  • Unemployment Insurance customers have the following contact option for this issue:
    • By Phone: Call 1-800-300-5616 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, Pacific time, Monday through Friday, except on state holidays.
  • Disability Insurance customers have the following contact options for this issue:

    • Online:
      1. Go to Ask EDD and select the category Disability Insurance Benefits.
      2. Select the sub-category Benefit Programs Online.
      3. Select the topic Password Reset.
      4. Select Continue to begin the process of submitting your password reset request.
  • Paid Family Leave customers have the following contact options for this issue:

Yes. You need to have access to your email to reset your password.

Note: All of your Benefit Programs Online profile updates can be done using a mobile device.

To update your Benefit Programs Online account:

  1. Log in to Benefit Programs Online.
  2. Select My Profile.
  3. Select the item you wish to update. Your options are:
    1. Update Email
    2. Update Password
    3. Update Security Questions
    4. Update Personal Image and Caption

Note: Additional contact information such as your mailing address and phone number can only be updated in SDI Online or UI Online.

To update your personal image:

  1. Log in to Benefit Programs Online.
  2. Select My Profile.
  3. Select Update Personal Image and Caption.

You selected your personal image and caption when you registered for Benefit Programs Online. This is a security measure on your account. If you do not recognize your personal image and caption, do not enter your password.

Before you contact the EDD, be sure you have:

  1. Completed the registration process:
    • Select your unique link in the Benefit Programs Online - Registration email if you are new to Benefit Programs Online.
  2. Entered your email accurately:
    • Enter your email in Benefit Programs Online again.
    • Select Log In.
    • Review your personal image and caption once more.

Contact the EDD immediately if you have completed registration and entered the correct email, but the wrong personal image and caption are displayed.

The security of your personal information is vital to the EDD and we make every effort to protect it. The system has safeguards to detect and prevent fraud; such as the use of:

  • Encrypted data.
  • Security images.
  • Notifications when your account is updated.

Benefit Programs Online will lock you out if you incorrectly enter your password or answer your security questions too many times. Try to log in again later.

To update your Benefit Programs Online email:

  1. Log in to Benefit Programs Online.
  2. Select My Profile.
  3. Select Update Email.

Your mailing address and phone number can only be updated in SDI Online and UI Online.

  • UI Online:
    1. Log in to Benefit Programs Online.
    2. Select UI Online.
    3. Select Personal Profile from the UI Online main menu.
    4. Select Contact Information to update your information.
  • SDI Online:
    1. Log in to Benefit Programs Online.
    2. Select SDI Online.
    3. Select Profile on the SDI Online Main Menu.
    4. Select the contact information you wish to update.
  • Benefit Overpayment Services:
    1. Call 1-800-676-5737 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Pacific time, Monday through Friday, except on state holidays.

If you received an error message while attempting to log in, register, update your profile, logout, or reset your password:

  1. Visit Benefit Programs Online to find out if the system is unavailable due to scheduled maintenance or is currently experiencing technical issues.
  2. Close all browsers, wait a few minutes, and then open a new browser window.
  3. Go to Benefit Programs Online and start the process again.
  4. Check all the information you have entered is accurate.

If you continue to receive the error message, note the error code (if one was provided) and contact the EDD.

To protect the security of your account, Benefit Programs Online sessions will expire after 30 minutes of inactivity on any page. To continue, return to Benefit Programs Online and start over.
