State Employee Automated Phone Service Instructions

Learn how to use the California state employee automated phone service which includes information for Non-industrial Disability Insurance (NDI), Disability Insurance (DI) and Paid Family Leave (PFL).

Our toll-free number is 1-866-758-9768.

Representatives are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. except on holidays.

This number is only for California state employee claims and anyone who has been identified as a relative or friend of an EDD employee.

Friends and family will use this number if:

  • They have filed a claim.
  • The EDD employee they are friends or family with is aware of their claim and has access to the disability claims system.
  • The claim has been identified as a friend or family claim and it has been transferred to this office for processing.

In that case, other EDD offices will no longer have access to you their claim and all inquiries for the life of the claim must be made through this number.

If you are a state employee, you must also be a member of the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS), the California State Teacher’s Retirement System (CalSTRS), a State Officer, or an employee of the California State Legislature. EDD employee relatives or friends do not need to be affiliated with any state entity or organization.

If you know your selection, you can enter it at any time. While using the automated phone service you can:

  • Press 9 to return to a previous menu.
  • Press the star key (*) to repeat information.

Please check your paystub to see if you are paying a CASDI contribution, and select from the following options: you call, review this information to choose the right option for you. The Main Menu options are:

Use this option if you are a member of the State Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 1000, represented by bargaining units 1, 3, 4, 11, 14, 15, 17, 20, or 21.

For Information on:

  • Your benefit payment or claim forms, press 1.
  • SDI Online filing, press 2 (The SDI Online help desk for registration, password or security questions, and other system-related questions for online claim filing).
  • General disability benefits for state employees, press 3.
    • To speak with a representative, press 0.

Use this option if you are a state employee and an active member of the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS), California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS), a state officer, or an employee of the California Legislature, and your pay stub does not show a CA SDI contribution.

For Non-Industrial Disability Leave, press 1.

For Nonindustrial Disability Insurance information on:

  • Benefit payments, press 1.
    • To speak with a representative, press 0.
  • Eligibility, press 2.
  • Filing question, press 3.
  • Waiting period, press 4.
  • Appeals, press 5.
  • Continued claim information, press 6.

For Non-Industrial Disability Family Care Leave, press 2.

For Nonindustrial Disability Insurance-Family Care Leave information on:
